Goniotomy surgery for Glaucoma

It is a surgical removal of trabecular mesh work which is the site of resistance to the flow of aqueous. It can be performed at the time of cataract surgery to reduce / completely eliminate the need to put pressure lowering drops for glaucoma. It is performed with kaboom dual blade or bent needle. It can lead to blood in anterior chamber after surgery & it clears on its own in 3-5 days. It is a very safe procedure which should be done before proceeding with Trabeculectomy with Mitomycin.

This procedure is performed by Dr Hitesh chheda at all the centres of Asian Eye Institute, Mumbai viz Borivli west, Borivli East, Dadar, Virar, Ulwe- Navi Mumbai & Kutch- Bidada. It has revolutionised the management of glaucoma
