We are performing lasik surgery at ASIAN EYE INSTITUTE, Mumbai since 2008 on Nidek Excimer laser CX lll. We have successfully performed more than 5000 lasik procedures since inception. Dr Hitesh Chheda at ASIAN EYE INSTITUTE has more than 25 years of experience in this operations.
LASIK can be done for minus, plus & cylindrical numbers. For minus numbers , it is FDA approved upto 12 diopters. For plus numbers, it gives good results upto 5 diopters. For those above the age of 40 , you need to undergo a procedure similar to cataract surgery with progressive lens implantation & you will never get cataract in the future as well.
During lasik procedure, 100 micron flap of cornea is lifted & than laser is done on the cornea to reshape based on the spectacle number & than flap is reposted back in position. It takes 24 hrs to heal. You need to avoid splashing water in the eye & rubbing the eye for 15 days. You need to put eye drops 3-4 times a day for a month. You can resume your normal routine activities from 3 rd day.
In customised lasik ( wavefront guided & topo guided- contoura lasik) lot of aberrations in the eye are also treated along with the spectacle power which helps in getting good quality of vision & night vision.
In bladeless lasik, the corneal flap is also created with the help of the laser. It is much safer than conventional lasik.
Recently we have installed Micron M7 laser from Excelcius at our Borivli west centre above Tirumala which is the latest version with Artificial Intelligence incorporated in it
You need to stop using contact lenses for 2-3 days prior to lasik surgery. Also need to avoid any perfume on the day of surgery as laser energy gets affected with the smell.
Entire procedure takes 15-20 minutes & you need to wait with eyes closed for another 20 minutes. After that you will be examined by the doctor before giving discharge from the hospital.
Vision is slightly blurred on the day of the surgery & there can be slight irritation & watering on the first day. Vision clears from second day onwards
In some cases, if corneal thickness is less, we perform PRK- direct removal of epithelium followed by excimer laser. New epithelial healing takes 4-5 days during which bandage contact lenses are applied & usually removed on the 6 th day
